The Cheesecake Dilemna

SELF-REFLECTION

DAY 23

I have been working very hard over the past few weeks at trying to lose weight and get myself back into some kind of  shape worth being proud of. Having been pregnant four times, let me be the first to tell you, my body is certainly not what it used to be. Not at all. Not in any way, shape or form….It’s ok though, I am learning to embrace the sagging. No that’s a complete lie. I am not embracing any of the sagging. Screw the sagging.

I am very happy to announce that I mastered the hula hoop exercise on the Wii Fit. LOL I know I know, my life goals are awesome. Anyway last week I moved on to Zumba on the Wii Fit. Let’s talk about Zumba for a moment. Holy so hard I can’t feel my legs for days. It hurts, so it must be working. Go Zumba.

I have come so far since January. I have lost weight. I eat better. My heart is healthier, and I know this because I can actually do Zumba without fainting. Anyway, because I have accomplished so much, yesterday I wanted to treat myself. What better way to treat yourself for losing weight than a slice of cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory? Vanilla Bean to be exact. Seriously the best idea ever, I know. I put my plan in motion. My mistake? Sending my husband.

I sent my husband on one simple mission, to go purchase me one slice of delicious Vanilla Bean cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. What does he do? He purchases me an ENTIRE CHEESECAKE!! WHAT THE WORLD!! Hello!! Doesn’t he know the amount of effort it has taken for me to come this far? UGH. I have has this cheesecake not even 24 hours. I had a slice for dessert last night. I had a slice for a late night snack…last night. AND I had a slice for breakfast this morning. They were huge slices…OK OK they weren’t slices at all. I actually just went to town on it with a fork. The stupid thing is now half-eaten. Yes, I ate half of an entire cheesecake in three sittings. I may be in need of some sort of therapy. The sad part is, the cheesecake is still here. It is in my refrigerator as I am typing this. And it is calling my name. I seriously need to throw the stupid thing away. I can’t bring myself to do it. It cost way more than any cheesecake on this planet should EVER cost, and it is the most delicious thing I have eaten in 3 months. I blame my husband.

I hate you Vanilla Bean Cheesecake. Nope, that’s another lie. I love you Vanilla Bean Cheesecake. I love you so much. Damn youuuuuuu.

  1. I feel your love/hate so much. So very much.
I would suggest that you pitch the cheesecake – but I know I couldn’t. I would project on it all the love my husband had for me. All the possible strength I SHOULD own. And use all of that to rationalize keeping it.
And then I would eat the rest of the cheesecake.

THAT SAID, Not one piece or several entire cheesecakes makes your success into failure.

The point is not the cheesecake. The success is the system of doing the exercise and mostly eating healthy food. Cheesecake is just one point in a long process. It isn’t a point that defines failure. Its just a step that happened. Its life. Sometimes we take the scenic route in life because its more fun and interesting. And as long as we are still headed in the right direction its OK.

Don’t define your success in pounds or inches. Define your success in the fact that you still do the exercise and that you still eat the healthy food. Therefore you are still heading in the right direction.

  2. Hahaha yep, been there, eaten that 🙂
Don’t sweat the small stuff. The important thing is sticking to the healthy lifestyle changes you’ve been making – keep exercising, keep eating healthy, keep thinking positive. No guilt, enjoy the little treat for what it is & keep moving forward!

  3. Cheesecake is my weakness. So, I learned to make it because obviously. Then I tell everyone in my house You have to help me eat it! And never give them the chance.. it’s amazing with coffee for breakfast.. and for lunch, and dessert after dinner, and a late night snack.

  4. Hilarious. Oh husbands. I think you should share it with a friend or neighbor- say I was thinking of you- here you go. I am currently battling girl scout cookies- THIN MINTS- i hate/love you!

  5. Cut it into actual slices and then wrap them each up. Then put them in the freezer. In the back. Like, the way back. Bury them. Bury them like little treasures that you forget about until you stumble upon a slice every couple of weeks as you forage for dinner or put something away after grocery shopping. 🙂

My current problem is refraining from Cadbury mini eggs. Especially when I find a bag of dark chocolate ones.

  6. If you put fruit on the cheesecake then it is the perfect breakfast food, not so different from a bowl of cereal. Crust = grain = cereal, filling= dairy=milk and fruit topping= sliced banana in your cereal 🙂

  7. One cheesecake won’t undo 3 months of working out if I were you I’d just make it your 3 months of hard work reward and know every 3 months you’ll spend a couple days enjoying a cheesecake. (Unless you fall out of the habbit of working out you should be fine.) I use to lift weights everyday, not just because I was dedicated to weight lifting but because I worked out so long that if I didn’t do it I felt like crap all day until I did. I went between 105 and 110 pounds no matter what I ate and I was cut but very slender I was able to eat pretty much anything and never left my 105-110 zone. Then I got pregnant with my 3rd kid and stopped lifting weights and he is 3 now and I have not started lifting still. I have been sitting at 150 pounds since I gave birth to him and the only 10 pounds I lost to bring me down to 140 was when I had a double mastectomy this past January (when you wish to drop 10 pounds be specific where you want that 10 pounds to come from haha.) Good luck with the weightloss don’t bother beating yourself up over one cheesecake. Cheesecake is my favorite and nobody should ever go through life without cheesecake.

  8. Literally amazing. Normally when people write “LOL”, they are non-emotional but I did. I laughed out loud. In the office. I got several looks.
I have the same problem with the biscuit tin so I feel your pain. It seems to give off some kind of signal when I need a little snack. Funny how the fruit bowl doesn’t give the same signal out…. I’ve had zero children so I can’t completely empathise with you but after playing rugby for 8 years then doing mostly nothing for the last 2 years, getting back into training is no longer fun or easy. It’s more of a live-version of one of those survival films!

    1. Haha. Thanks for the laugh this morning! I wish the fruit bowl called my name like sweets do! I would have a lot less pounds to lose! I imagine it is very hard getting back into shape after playing rugby for so long! You got this!

    1. Thank you Lydia. It took me quite some time to get the drive I needed. But once I started and began noticing changes, I just kept on going. Losing weight was just the beginning of for me. I just want to be a happier person in general. I want to be more active and feel better about who I am not only on the inside but the outside as well. Things have been a lot better lately. My sister told me 3 months ago “only you can change your life.” She was so right and so here
I am trying to be better. Thank you so much for reading! Your drive will come!

  9. Love this! Just started following and sent your link to my sister who WILL LOVE this 🙂 I have four sisters, three of whom have kids, and it has been amazing to watch them ebb and flow into and out of their various roles in the world and within their family units–wearing a lot of hats! They will all like what you are doing here. Thanks for putting this out there. Very grateful to have found your work and to NOW be following your blog. Thank you so much. With joy, peace, and gratitude, Zach from StrengthsLife.com

  10. Oh no! No not the cheese cake!
Your affair with the cheesecake could well have been me although my passion is chocolate.
When I shared your saga with my husband, he explained it like any logical male. One piece is $5.00 and the whole cake is $20.00. Might as well buy the lot. He also said that he could eat the rest of the cheese cake since you were now on the diet.
We all know that self-control is something we recommend to others but struggle to exercise in ourselves!
Good luck with your ongoing journey. You can do it!

  11. Oh how I feel your pain! My birthday was 3/11 and I clearly ate and drank entirely too much -_- And I’m 43 now so I can’t just diet for a few days to get back on track. Heck I can’t even just run up and down the stairs like before. #soulcry Good luck and I need to join you too and get back on track!

    1. Wow Alisha you look great at 43! I thought you were younger for sure. Not that you are old lol I just think you look a lot younger! Join me my friend!! It wasn’t easy finding the motivation at first , but once I started I just kept going. I have lost 50 pounds since I really started trying a little over a year ago! However I have really cracked down the last few months. I am finally starting to feel a lot better about myself.

    1. Thanks so much Joe! That means so much. It feels wonderful to have a fellow blogger recognizing my work. I have just recently decided on an award free blog, but please know that you have made my day by nominating me!

  12. Hello hello! This made me laugh and that’s a great way to start the day. I can only buy the little pints of ice cream or bad things happen like you with the cheesecake. My husband would buy the big half gallon so he cannot be trusted to buy ice cream for me. Also, I use the Wii for yoga and ski jumping and things and my kids think I’m crazy and laugh. Now I know I have a Wii comrade!
